Trillium Herbal Company was started in Door County, 1994, but it's roots in the County run deeper. Trillium's founder and formulator, Karen Ciesar has been coming to the Bowl since 1969. That's the year that 5 friends invested their Whiting High School Investment pool and purchased the Thorp Hotel, and the The Whiting Five became the Founders Square Families. Soon to be just three families, the Ciesars, Rusnacks and Domans created iconic vacation shopping experiences most notably, the Fish Creek Clothier, the Silly Goose, and the Confectionery, and many more. Karen herself ran the Founders Square Gallery, and Ciesar's Palace through the 80's.
Friday Night at "the Bowl" is our family's most enduring ritual.
Back in the 70's, the road to the Bowl was five and half hours of two lane roads. Each family in their own car, often suggesting new clever back road routes to shave minutes off the drive. Our Dads would take different routes and race one another!. We were all of one mind, "Just get to the Bowl!".
Back then there was a bandstand in the bar room. When "The Birminghams" played, everyone danced. When Earl and Rita would take the dance floor, we all gave them some room to 'show us how it's done'. Rita stepped out with the fastest footwork any of us kids had ever seen. We all swore we saw smoke flying off her heels.
We love the Sister Bay Bowl, and still come most Fridays. The picture is my own children bowling last summer. Placing Body Polish at the lavatory is our way of honoring the Ciesar family's long tradition in Door County.

Trillium was founded by a fresh green lawyer, who learned early that the court system was not the only place to make change. Always the champion of women, Karen Ciesar (OGmama) and her partner brought one of the first Title 9 Sexual Harassment cases in California, ultimately established important precedent in the California Supreme Court, "Catchpole v Brannon,1995." Look it up, it's a time stamped snapshot of how far women have come in America.
Karen, a new mother, began her journey into the deceptive of American personal care with the birth of her first child, Zephyr. Unable to make sense of the ingredients, and dubious of the intentions of large corporations, she studied herbalism and midwifery, and wise woman ways for the next decades. The Grand Mere's of Midwifery, Trillium birthing care, of Arcata, which inspired the naming of the brand. Later with the Living Goddess Collective that still thrives today in Sebastopol California. Blessed BE All of the Divine Feminine Incarnate who have inspired Trillium through this amazing journey.
It all started with a simple question

Karen, set out to create products that honored the grace and integrity of
humans as a part of, not "in spite of" our connection to nature she wanted to create experiences to facilitate sacred connections
